SRINAGAR: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Ashiq Hussain, a Patwari hailing from Halqa Sharifabad in District Budgam. The operation unfolded when Hussain was caught red-handed, demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in exchange for facilitating an entry in revenue records.

The ACB’s intervention came following a written complaint received by the bureau, accusing Ashiq Hussain of soliciting a Rs 10,000 bribe for an online entry in the Revenue records, specifically the Jamabandi, pertaining to a complainant’s property. The concerned individual approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau with a formal complaint, seeking legal action against the accused public servant in accordance with the relevant laws.

In response to the complaint, Case FIR No. 21/2023 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was promptly registered at the ACB Srinagar police station, initiating a thorough investigation into the matter.

As the investigation progressed, a specialized trap team was constituted, with the primary objective of ensnaring the accused. The team executed the operation, successfully apprehending Ashiq Hussain, the Patwari from Halqa Sharifabad, Budgam, while he was caught in the act of demanding and accepting the Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant.

Following the necessary formalities, Hussain was immediately taken into custody.
