A lineman of Power Development Department (PDD) died of electrocution while carrying out the repair of a transformer in border Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Official sources said that lineman Mohammad Munshi of Kallar Mohra area of Gursai in Mendhar was carrying out the repair of a transformer at Parat village and came into contact with 33000 KV HT line.

Sources said that while carrying out the repairs the HT line was shut and suddenly restored leading to Munshi’s death.

Soon after the incident police station, Gursai has registered a case and in a swift action seized the ‘timing book’ of the PDD concerned to verify negligence, if any.

The incident also triggered massive protests in the area with people demanding strict action against those involved in the negligence.

Sub District Magistrate, Dr Tanveer Khan confirmed the incident and said that an inquiry has been initiated to look into it.

He has also sought an immediate report from the AEE concerned with regard to the incident. (GNS)
