SRINAGAR: Officials from the Power Development Department (PDD) in north Kashmir were allegedly subjected to physical assault during an inspection in a Sopore locality, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the police.

An official from the PDD informed that the altercation occurred when employees from Division II of Sopore PDD were carrying out their duties at Sher Colony.

He said that during an inspection following multiple complaints of hookings, an individual confronted the PDD officials, which resulted in a heated argument that escalated into physical violence. The individual allegedly hurled abuses and manhandled the officials.

Kashmir Power DISCOM also expressed its concerns about the security and safety of their employees during such drives on their official handler on X. “KPDCL officials of Electric S/D Sopore II were manhandled during the inspection of Sher Colony. @BaramullaPolice is requested to take strict action against these offenders and power pilferers.”

Meanwhile, police said they have taken strong cognisance of the incident and lodged an FIR, adding that further investigations into the incident have been initiated.

“An FIR has been registered at Police Station Amargrah, and we have initiated investigations into the matter to determine the circumstances that led to the incident,” a police official said.(KNO)
