Admitting that some Power Development Department (PDD) officials are involved in abetting power theft in the State, Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmad Khan said strict actions will be taken against officials who indulge into malpractice.

“Action is taken against officials whenever there are such complaints. They cannot evade disciplinary action under rules”, Khan said on Thursday.

He said that power theft is a serious concern and the government is taking steps to prevent losses caused on account of power theft.

When asked about the negligence while billing the consumers, which compelled them to lodge protest at CM’s residence, he said, “We’ve appealed the consumers to contact concerned offices for correction. If we find it is deliberate negligence on part of officials, action will be taken against them”.

In the wake of LPG cap and winter, he said that there would be no unnecessary or excessive curtailment in the power supply schedule during winter in the valley.

“Providing basic amenities to people of the state is the priority of government. Our efforts are for betterment of the lives of people and people are appreciating our efforts”, said Khan.

He said the department has set up a special team to check hooking (Power Theft).
“To ensure smooth supply of power to consumers they (Consumers) have to cooperate with the authorities”, he added.(KNS)
