SRINAGAR

Finalizing the preparations for the forthcoming assembly polls in the state, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday evolved consensus on the mandates for more than 40 assembly constituencies of Kashmir region.

Top sources have informed Kashmir News Service (KNS) that Imran Ansari son of senior PDP leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, will contest from Srinagar’s Zadibal constituency. Former trade union leader Khurshid Alam will be the PDP candidate from old city’s Khaniyar constituency. Asiya Naqash will be contesting from Hazratbal on PDP ticket while Mohammad Ashraf Mir- who is also PDP district president Srinagar will contest from Sonwar.

Pertinently, Wachi, Batmaloo and Baramulla, the three assembly seats out of which two were represented by PDP in the legislative assembly have fallen vacant after Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussian Beig and Tariq Hamid Karra were elected as Members of  Parliament in recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Sources also confirmed that the party has given mandate to almost all sitting MLAs of Kashmir valley- asking them to take maximum benefits from the ‘anti-incumbency’ wave that shook the very foundations of the coalition in the recently held LS polls.
