Blaming ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Ministers for indulging in favouritism by stopping the selection of Vice-Chancellor for Islamic University of Science and Technology, J&K Congress Saturday sought end to the “undemocratic process and favouritism” being encouraged in the University to benefit the relatives and blue eyed persons.

Accusing PDP for indulging in “unfair means and encouraging favouritism” in the Universities, Congress in a statement issued to KNS said, “the political interference in the selection process of Vice Chancellor of Islamic University is very unfortunate, earlier the Party (PDP) has also indulged in such kind of exercises in order to benefit the persons belonging to its Ministers and leaders.”

“The recommendations of Selection Committee framed by former Chief Mufti are biting the dust as the serious efforts are being made to take full control of the IUST by PDP to benefit the relatives and blue eyed persons,” Congress alleged.

“There were only 10 applicants shortlisted for the post of Vice Chancellor of Islamic University, but after the passing away of former Chief Minister, the process of selection was halted to include non-eligible new applicants in the shortlist. How can the Universities face challenges when these are headed by non-eligible persons, beside marred by lobbyism,” Congress questioned.

Congress warned PDP of dire consequences if the interference in the functioning of educational institutions and universities is not stopped.
