SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Jammu Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to late Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg on his 38th death anniversary.
PDP spokesman in a statement issued here said the contribution made by late Mirza Afzal Beg in the public life of Jammu & Kashmir would be remembered forever.
“His contribution in the historic land reforms, which led to equal distribution of land resources among people, has been monumental. People would continue to recall his farsightedness and maturity with which he conducted himself in politics and administration,” said the PDP spokesman.
He added that late Afzal Beg as a seasoned leader who was not only an astute politician but an equally effective and innovative administrator who ruled the political canvas of Jammu and Kashmir for a pretty long time.
In his message, JKPM Vice President Advocate Syed Iqbal Tahir said that Beg Sahib as Revenue Minister was the architect of visionary land reforms and enforcement of land to tiller reform. He was a seasoned leader who possessed unmatched qualities of an astute politician and an equally innovative. His contribution to the historic land reforms, which led to equal distribution of land resources among poor masses of J&K, has been monumental.
“At a time when an attempt is being made to erase the collective history of people of J&K, the struggle and contribution made by the political leaders of that era must not be forgotten,” Iqbal Tahir said in his statement.
