Horticulture employees Friday staged a protest against the incumbent legislator Abbas Wani who allegedly thrashed a Horticulture Development Officer after the later didn’t issue production certificates in favour of political workers of the local legislator.

Requesting PDP president to initiate action against the legislator representing Gulmarg Constituency the protesting employees alleged that the behaviour of the said legislator towards the government employees is always inappropriate and condemnable.

Talking to CNS, the Horticulture Development Officer Shabir Ahmed Ganaie said that some political workers of legislator Abbas Wani wanted him to issue production certificates to three applicants Sumera, Parvez Mir and Raja Begum for issuance of Kissan Credit Cards (KCC) but all the three are not eligible for the reason that they have no orchard land. “I was summoned by Legislator at Alpine hotel Tangmarg and he directed me to issue these certificates without any argument. When I refused, he slapped me thrice and humiliated me in front of his political workers,” Ganaie said.

While confirming the incident, the District Horticulture Officer Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmed said that it is unfortunate that government employees are forced to violate the norms. “We will send a report to the Ministry for appropriate action,” he said.

Meanwhile, the protesting employees said that if action will not be initiated against the legislator, they will go for indefinite strike.

The legislator while refuting the allegations said that the said officer forces common men to wait for hours in his office. “We are all here to serve people and not to harass them. I had been receiving a number of complaints against the said officer and I just told him to work in the interest of people and don’t make them wait for hours in the office,” he said.
