SRINAGAR

Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed has won from the Islamabad constituency by a margin of 6028 votes against Congress’s Hilal Ahmad Shah.

Mufti got a total of 16983 votes, Shah got 10955 and NC’s candidate Iftikhar Hussain Misger got just mere 2403 votes.

Mufti’s party started its career from 1999 when the father-daughter resigned from Congress and floated their own party. Three years later, they took-over the state on basis of 16 members. Though the party improved by two seats and got 18 in 2008 but it did not fetch them the government.

But in 2014, the same party is emerging as the largest wining party from Jammu and Kashmir claiming it to be their wave which engulfed Kashmir and some Muslim seats of Pir Panchal and Chenab valley.

In 2008 assembly elections Mufti won the same seat by a margin of 4891 votes against NC’s Mirza Mehboob Beigh.
Islamabad constituency was in news recently when NC’s face of South Kashmir Beigh joined hands with PDP and started campaigning for them.
