SRINAGAR: District President of PDP and former MLA of Wachi, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, has quit the party and is likely to contest the upcoming JK assembly elections as an independent candidate.
Mir, who is also a DDC member, expressed his shock at the party’s decision to give the mandate to someone else.
He said he had been campaigning for the party for several months and was interacting with workers in one of the villages in his constituency when he learned about the mandate.
“If the party had such intentions, they should have at least contacted me and made a decision after taking me into confidence. Snatching the mandate in such a way is humiliation, and a man can bear anything but not humiliation. So, I have decided to quit the party,” he said.
When asked about his future plans, he said that he would contest the elections but would first consult with his workers and decide accordingly.
“Mandates aren’t decided by parties but by people, and I am hopeful that people will give their mandate by voting in my favour,” he added.
It is likely that Aijaz Mir will now contest the elections as an independent candidate.
Notably, PDP has appointed Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani as the constituency in charge for Wachi.
