Reacting to a video that went viral on social media, Mufti said the alleged act of pulling the hijab or nose covering of a Muslim woman amounted to an affront to her dignity and religious sentiments. She stressed that such behaviour was unacceptable, particularly from an individual occupying a constitutional office.

The video, reportedly recorded during an appointment letter distribution ceremony on Monday, shows the Bihar Chief Minister removing the hijab of a woman AYUSH doctor while handing over her certificate. The footage has since sparked a political controversy, with opposition leaders and civil society members expressing outrage and demanding accountability.

Iltija said the incident reflected a troubling insensitivity towards religious practices and personal dignity, adding that public representatives must uphold constitutional values and respect the rights and beliefs of all citizens.

There was no immediate response from the Bihar Chief Minister’s Office to the allegations or the viral video.
