SRINAGAR: Police and paramilitary forces used tear smoke shells and even a round of pellets was fired after the locals came out in a protest. They reacted to a cordon and search operation (CASO) that has now been lifted.

Police sources said the protesters were chased by the police and it was quelled. However, two persons were hit by the pellets. Both are minor injuries, they said, adding the protests were also over.

Meanwhile in Tral, reports said the army has cordoned off a vast forest stretch Channad forest tat includes the remote Pastuna village. It was reaction to a few shots being heard. The details of the operation are still not known. Police, however, confirmed that the belt is infer tight cordon.
