The Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani addressed the funeral gathering over telephone from New-Delhi. He denied the claims that Mudassir’s death was the cause of suicide. He said, “They are making it propaganda and are projecting it as a suicide which it is not. He was a pious soul and is a martyr.”  After that the telephone call was hung. Other Hurriyat leaders from the locality also attended the funeral prayers of Mudassir.

As per some locals, present at the funeral procession, Mudassir was taken for last prayers amidst pro freedom and anti India slogans. They alleged that visible torture marks were all over the body of Mudassir.

The PhD scholar was found dead at his hostel room at the English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad, Saturday evening.

Earlier the family of the deceased had refused to perform the last rites as they alleged that the body had torture marks. They were demanding senior authorities to witness their claims.
