Scores of people Wednesday staged a protest against group of people and an Indian Reserve police officer for allegedly beating an attendant from Sumbal Sonawari mercilessly outside SKIMS Soura. The protestors demanded registration of FIR against the ‘guilty’ under law and alleged.

“Two friends had a scuffle while playing cricket at Nesbal Sumbal. Both were injured and shifted to SKIMS. I was accompanying my injured relative Amir Rasool Reshi  when an IRP officer (brother in-law of another injured youth) along with some men appeared in SKIMS Soura and beat me ruthlessly,” attendant Zahid Ahmed told CNS adding that he was saved from further wrath by hospital security and a police constable from Sumbal police station who was accompanying the injured.

He said that while the officer and his associates beat him up in Srinagar while the son of the officer attacked the relatives in Nesbal and misbehaved with women folk there.

Station House Officer Sumbal, Mehboob Hussain said that Amir Rasool Reshi and Bilal Abdullah Reshi had a scuffle while playing cricket match at Nesbal.

“The families of both youth approached police station with the complaints against each other. We registered counter FIR’s and investigation is going on,” he said.

He added that whatever happened at Soura is beyond his jurisdiction and Soura police will take cognizance of that matter.

The protestors meanwhile lodged a written complaint against the IRP officer and others in Police Station Soura. Investigating Officer of the case Habibullah said that he will record the statement of the police constable from Sumbal police station accompanying the injured when the alleged incident occurred.

“I already talked to some doctors and other hospital staff about the allegations. We are investigating the allegations levelled by some people against the IRP officer and so far nobody is coming forward to confirm the assault on the attendant,” he said.
