Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Mohammad Yasin Malik said that on Saturday once again people rejected the forcibly thrust, “sham and futile exercise” of election as there was a near total boycott of it.

The JRL in a statement said that people see this delusive cosmetic attempt as another assault on them and hence are resisting it tooth and nail.

JRL in a statement said it’s time government of India pay heed to the clear message emanating from the rejection of these elections by the people of Kashmir.

“People of Kashmir have no faith in them. They see this process as a deception played upon them by successive governments in India to hoodwink Indians for electoral gains and to mislead the international community by selling them as people’s verdict in India’s favour,” they said.

JRL in a statement said that instead what people of Kashmir want is to get out of the political uncertainty surrounding them for the past 71 years and the resultant distress.

“The everyday pain of shouldering the coffins of our educated and budding youth. They want the resolution of the Kashmir dispute once for all and peace for them and people of South Asia,” said JRL in a statement.

“The resolution of the dispute as per internationally accepted norms of conflict resolution is through right to self-determination as was promised to the people, or through the negotiated settlement among the stakeholders through dialogue and deliberations. Leadership said that people of Kashmir ask Delhi to show ethicality and humanity and resolve the issue,” they added.

Meanwhile, JRL has paid rich tributes to slain militant Shabir Ahmad, who was killed in an encounter with government forces in Babagund Pulwama.

“The sacrifices rendered by our youth in the length and breadth of Valley will bear fruit very soon,” the JRL in a statement said.
