Islamabad

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti Saturday said that with the people’s support, her party can again pull the State out of the dark era of National Conference rule as was done in 2002. She said the people of the State now yearn for Azadi from the draconic NC rule, once for all.

“PDP is now the only voice left in Jammu and Kashmir to represent its regional aspirations as NC has lost track with the State’s ground realities and its people,” Mehbooba said while addressing a public meeting at Dooru in district Islamabad.

Mehbooba said despite spiteful machinations by NC to obstruct emergence of any regional political force in the State, PDP has emerged as the most viable regional alternative to NC by not only giving voice to people’s aspirations but also delivering enviably on the governance front. “It is because of its pro-people agenda that PDP has been witnessing a consistent and formidable growth across the State since its inception in 1999,”she said adding “God willing and with the support of the people, PDP’s performance would touch new heights in the 2014 political battles in the State.”

Complimenting the PDP cadres for having successfully and effectively carried the party’s political and economic agenda to the grassroots level, Mehbooba said having sacrificed their personal interests for the larger objective of ensuring peace and dignity of the State and its people, the untiring efforts of the PDP workers and leaders have made this party to become a people’s movement.

Accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of making hilarious noises on issues out of his domain, Mehbooba said that he is resorting to such histrionics only to hide his countless failures. Reminding the chief minister his promises made during electioneering to 2008 assembly polls, Mehbooba said the people want to know where is the much-parroted Truth and Reconciliation Commission on human rights violations, where have the one lakh jobs that were to be given in the first three months of the new government gone, what happened to the promise of one job to each family, where is the  stipend for the educated unemployed youth, what happened to the commitment of bringing down educational qualification for recruitment of police constables to middle pass and last but not least there is also no word from the Government about removing the electricity meters, slashing the power tariff, making  electricity available round-the-clock and subsidizing the LPG and rations promised by NC during electioneering.

“Let the people judge the performance of the three immediate successive regimes from 1996-2002, 2002-2008 and 2008-2013 and make a choice for them for 2014-2020 accordingly,” she said and added that the people have already written-off NC as one of the misfortunes that was foisted on the State only to push it into the most tragic era of death and destruction.

Senior party leader and former finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra, District President Peer Mohd Hussain, Syed Farooq Andrabi and Mir Mohd Hussain were also present on the occasion.
