SRINAGAR: The Chinese soldier who was captured somewhere in Damchok has been released and sent home, media reports said.
Identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long was handed over to the Chinese military on Tuesday night at Chushul-Moldo border point in eastern Ladakh, where usually the leaders of the two armies meet for discussion and dispute resolution.
Chinese Ministry had stated that Long went missing “while helping local herdsmen find the lost yak near the China-India border” on weekend. They said he has returned to his unit on October 21 morning. Demchok the area in which the soldier was captured is part of the crisis theatre.
The two armies are engaged in an eyeball to eyeball confrontation since early May. The two sides have had 12 rounds of negotiations at military level but a positive outcome is yet to be seen.
