In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister advised citizens to remain alert amid soaring temperatures, urging them to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours.

Expressing concern for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly and outdoor workers, Modi said they are particularly at risk during extreme weather conditions. He cautioned people against ignoring symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, weakness and extreme fatigue, warning that these could escalate into heatstroke if left unattended.

The Prime Minister advised people to carry drinking water while stepping outdoors and encouraged citizens to assist others by offering water during the intense heat.

He also appealed to the public to immediately help anyone showing signs of heat-related illness by moving them to a cool or shaded place and ensuring prompt access to water, oral rehydration solution (ORS) and medical attention.

Modi further urged people to regularly check on elderly family members and remind them to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, remain hydrated and get adequate rest.

Highlighting the need for compassion, he called on citizens to care for birds and animals by placing bowls of water outside homes, shops, offices, balconies and terraces.

Meanwhile, several parts of the country continue to grapple with intense heatwave conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 47.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, making it one of the hottest places in the country.

As per IMD norms, a heatwave is declared when temperatures in the plains exceed 45 degrees Celsius, while temperatures above 47 degrees Celsius are classified as a severe heatwave.
