SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new peace plan to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza, describing it as a “viable pathway” to lasting and sustainable peace in the region.

In an official statement and a post on X, Modi expressed hope that “all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace” for both Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as for the broader West Asian region.

The US President’s 20-point plan, announced alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, calls for an immediate ceasefire, a staged Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the release of all hostages, Hamas disarmament, and the formation of a transitional government led by an international body including figures such as Trump himself and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. The plan has received backing from Israel and positive reactions from several regional and global leaders, though it remains to be seen whether Hamas or other Palestinian factions will support its terms.
