PM, Sonia Visit: Security Beefed Up Throughout Kashmir

In connection to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s visit, a high alert has been sounded across Kashmir valley. Top police sources revealed Kashmir Life that Srinagar city has been categorized in so many security zones and each zone is looked after by a joint team of officers from police and CRPF.

Security arrangements have been tightened further and additional security check points have been set up not only in Srinagar city, but at all the leading roads to Srinagar from other district headquarters. Extra hidden cameras have been installed at several places in Srinagar through which movement of people is been monitored.

Special Protection Group (SPG) visited SKICC and extensively reviewed the security arrangements there. Prime minister will address the council of ministers and meet various deputations at SKICC on June 25.

Forces conducted a cordon and search last night at Sambora in Pampore. During the operation, house to house searches were conducted and local people were subjected to identification parades. Reports from Sumbal area of district Bandipora said that dozens of youth have been summoned to police station.

In Srinagar city, special teams of police, SOG and CRPF have been deployed on emergency basis at sensitive and crowded places.

The drivers and passengers are frisked and asked to show their identity cards. Frisking of people and checking of vehicles is also going in different parts of Srinagar city.

Security has been also beefed up at Boulevard road and its adjoining areas. Special security squads have been deployed on neighbouring hills and building besides Dal Lake area.
