The president JKPCC (JK Pradesh Congress Committee) and MP Prof Saifuddin Soz has urged upon the Prime Minister of India to intervene in the matter of PM’s special scholarship scheme which was meant for the students of J&K. the students have complained that the scheme is not being implemented by the HRD ministry.
As per a statement the president JKPCC has written a letter to the PM of India to intervene in the matter. “The government of India has devised a scheme to provide scholarships to students of Jammu and Kashmir to undertake studies outside the State. It was titled as Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir State. The scheme provided that a particular income group of boys and girls, verified properly, would be selected for admission at various universities and colleges outside the J & K State. But, then, the scholarship has not been released so far by the Ministry of Human Resources Development”, reads the letter.
It further reads, “A report has appeared in the press that many students who had cleared their first and second semesters did not receive the scholarships so far. Many students have returned home with a deep sense of frustration. One wonders why the HRD Ministry did not put the device for verification in shape within a required time-frame so that the scholarships would be disbursed in time.”
Prof Soz has even written in the letter that he had already urged the Ministry of HRD to release the scholarships immediately so that the eligible students do not give up their studies outside the state and return to J & K State with a feeling of hurt. But he has alleged that the scheme has to be open-ended in the sense that if there are more than 5000 students, the additional number should also get the scholarship as the financial implications will be negligible.
Prof Soz has further requested the PM to intervene in the matter and ask the Ministry to ensure proper implementation of the Scheme.
