After invited to attend the function presided by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, president Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) and lawmaker from Langate Er Rashid Monday was put under house arrest, a day before the visit.
Surprising in a way, the tactic is mostly being used for the separatist leaders particularly Hurriyat(G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani.
According to AIP, this was done to prevent Rashid from carrying out a protest march against failure of Government of India (GoI) to take initiatives to resolve the political dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
Spokesman of his party, Showkat Nadvi has termed it as an act of frustration on the behalf of state administration and security agencies.
“It clearly exposes the dual policy of New Delhi which has never allowed any sincere, peaceful and democratic movement to run for the resolution of political dispute,” Nadvi said.
Spokesman further added that on one hand state government has sent an official invitation to Er Rashid for attending the function which is to be presided by Dr Manmohan Singh and on the other hand they have placed him under house arrest.
Earlier in day while addressing party workers, Er Rashid expressed deep concern over the Government of India for converting Kashmir Valley into a prison on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
He has said that people had grown tired of New Delhi’s negative attitude and the state police is unnecessarily adding to it by taking the respected citizens of valley to police station and putting them under custody so that there would be no one to lament the sufferings of a Kashmiri to the Prime Minister.
Er. Rashid said that simultaneous crack downs and search operations describe that the Government of India has failed to reach to the hearts of the people of Kashmir. The existing prevailing gap between New Delhi and Kashmir has increased because of Delhi’s negative attitude towards Kashmiris.
He added that it is the high time for the government of India to change its policy towards Kashmir.
Hitting hard at the National Conference and People Democratic Party, Er. Rashid said that Delhi should understand that when PDP or NC representatives participates in election they take an oath from locals to resolve the Kashmir issue which they later fail to do.
While expressing serious concern over the opposition party PDP for keeping silence on PM’s visit Er. Rasheed said that PDP being an opposition party has failed to represent the miseries of a common Kashmiri to PM. He said that PDP doesn’t want to spoil their future position with Congress Party.
