The development follows intervention by the Jammu and Kashmir Government, with the Higher Education Department issuing directions for the establishment of designated Facilitation Centres and Facilitation-cum-Document Verification Centres across the Union Territory to assist applicants.

According to an official communication issued by the department on July 16, the centres have been asked to expedite arrangements to ensure smooth registration, counselling and verification of documents for eligible students.

AICTE, which implements the PMSSS, opened the online registration and counselling portal at 12 noon on July 16, marking the start of the admission process for the 2026-27 academic session.

The scholarship scheme is aimed at providing financial assistance to students from Jammu and Kashmir who have passed Class 12, enabling them to pursue higher education in recognised colleges and institutions across the country.

Officials said the facilitation and document verification centres will help students complete the admission formalities and ensure timely processing of applications under the scholarship scheme.
