Few delegations of POK and Chamb refugees called on Minister of State for Revenue, Relief & Rehabilitation, Ajaz Ahmad Khan and apprised him of their long pending problems and sought the intervention of the government for early redressal of such grievances.

As per a statement the delegations raised the issues like one time settlement, Reservation in government jobs and professional colleges, compensation against land deficiency as per market value, conferring of ownership rights/tenancy rights on land allotted to Chamb Refugees, Disposal of pending applications for compensation etc.

The Minister informed the delegations that these issues have already been brought to the notice of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Prof Saif ud Din Soz and it has already been decided that a comprehensive package shall be prepared and submitted to centre with the prior approval of State Cabinet. The package will cover all the above demands raised by the Groups of Refugees from time to time.

The Minister also informed the deputations that a delegation of MPs and MLAs from Jammu led by Prof. Saif ud Din Soz had called on the Prime Minister and had requested for providing of a financial package which would help in rehabilitation of Displaced Persons of 1947 from POK/West Pakistan and 1965/71 Chamb Refugees and which will address their long pending demand. Based on the request of the delegation, Union Ministry of Home Affairs have held several meetings with officers of Jammu and Kashmir in this regard in which all the issues have been brought to their notice and a proposal after incorporating the above demands is being forwarded to them very soon.

The Minister also informed the delegations that Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Revenue Secretary have briefed the members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee who were on a visit to Jammu recently about the problems/demands of the Displaced Persons and to address the same state government shall need support from the Centre. The members were also informed that a package has been drafted involving an amount of Rs.7000 crores approximately and all the major demands have been incorporated in the package.

Also it is being suggested in the package that all the above facilities be provided to West Pakistani Refugees as well till the issue of their residential status is settled. It has also been suggested that they should be provided all facilities at par with POK Refugees.

The Minister informed the delegation that the Coalition government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is keen that problems of Displaced Persons are addressed on top priority and hoped that the financial package will address their most of the demands. He said the interactions of the Parliamentary Standing Committee with different groups of Displaced Persons and officers of State Government at Jammu recently will provide further support to the proposal of the State Government for providing financial package to Displaced Persons.
