SRINAGAR: Police across multiple districts in Kashmir arrested ten drug peddlers and recovered a large quantity of contraband, including psychotropic substances, charas, and brown sugar. The operations were conducted in Anantnag, Sopore, Handwara, and Pampore.
In Anantnag, police intercepted a Wagon-R vehicle at Halmulla Sangam during Naka checking, seizing 21 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The three occupants, identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh of Kuchmulla Tral, Mohd Altaf Sheikh of Kanihama Nowgam Srinagar, and Mohd Haroon Parry of Charsoo Awantipora, were arrested.
In a separate operation, a truck belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company was stopped near Jablipora Fruit Mandi, leading to the seizure of 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The truck driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, both from Bahoo, Awantipora, were taken into custody.
In Sopore, a police team at Naidhal Crossing apprehended Shakir Ahmad Sheikh of Noorbagh Baramulla. A search revealed 32.3 grams of charas and 64 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus.
In Handwara, police on patrol at Herpora arrested Farooq Ahmad Dar, alias Jungli, of Lachipora Handwara. Eight grams of brown sugar were recovered from his possession.
In Pampore, a checkpoint at Frestabal Pampore led to the arrest of Suhail Ahmad Ganie of Pantha Chowk, currently residing in Frestabal. Police recovered 48 grams of charas during the search.
Cases under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are ongoing.
The police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace and urged the public to report any drug-related activities by contacting the nearest police establishment or dialling 112.
