Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Contraband Recovered in Central Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police in Ganderbal arrested a suspected drug peddler and seized contraband substances during a checkpoint operation in the Kangan area, officials said on Saturday.

According to police, a naka was established at Kachnambal Crossing by personnel from Police Station Kangan. A suspicious individual attempted to flee upon spotting the police party but was swiftly apprehended by alert officers.

Upon searching the suspect, a quantity of charas-like substance was recovered and subsequently seized. The accused has been identified as Shareef-ud-Din Chechi, son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Chechi, a resident of Chattergul Bala.

A case has been registered under FIR No. 27/2025 at Police Station Kangan under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information related to drug peddling or other criminal activities to the nearest police unit or by dialling 112. Authorities reiterated their commitment to acting strictly against drug-related offences and called for community cooperation to root out the menace from society.
