SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested eight drug peddlers across Awantipora, Sopore, Srinagar, and Pantha Chowk on January 13, 2025, recovering contraband substances, including heroin-like materials, cannabis powder, and charas. Separate cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
In Awantipora, police apprehended two individuals at a checkpoint in Datpora Dogripora. The suspects, Bilal Ahmad Lohrihanji of Gund Prang Hajin Bandipora and Reyaz Ahmad Mir of Datapora Dogripora, were found with 1.460 kilograms of ground cannabis powder in their possession.
Similarly, in Sopore, Manzoor Ahmad Mochi of Harwan Sopore was arrested during a patrol by the Bomai Police Station team. The search yielded 137 grams of charas, leading to his immediate arrest.
In Srinagar, two drug peddlers, Umer Manzoor Rather alias Manadev of Natipora and Yawer Ahmad Bhat of Baghat Kanipora, were intercepted at a checkpoint in Chanpora. A substantial quantity of contraband substances was recovered from their vehicle, a Tempo Traveller (JK02AF-1776). A case under FIR No. 03/2025 was registered at PS Chanapora.
Meanwhile, in Pantha Chowk, two individuals, Furqan Majeed Khan alias Kanda of Kanipora Nowgam and Sameer Hussain Dar of Chatregam Nowgam, were stopped at a checkpoint in Zaffron Colony. A search revealed 10 grams of a heroin-like substance in their possession. A case was registered under FIR No. 02/2025 at Pantha Chowk Police Station.
The police have appealed to the public to assist in the fight against drug trafficking by reporting any suspicious activities. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to taking stringent action against those involved in drug-related crimes to create a safer and drug-free society.
