Police Arrest Five Drug Peddlers Across Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested five individuals in two separate districts as part of its intensified campaign against drug trafficking, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances and seizing a vehicle used in the illicit trade.

In Sopore, police apprehended two persons in distinct operations. Mehraj-ud-Din Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir, a resident of Chijhama Rafiabad, was arrested at a checkpoint near Lalad Bridge with suspected contraband. In a separate incident at Takyibal, Bilal Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar from Chankhan Sopore, was found in possession of a poppy straw-like substance.

Meanwhile, in Kulgam, a checkpoint at Arreh led to the interception of a vehicle bearing registration number JK18D-3833. Two individuals on board, Nazir Ahmad Kumar of Awhatoo Kulgam and Ghulam Rasool Malla of Khudwani, were found carrying approximately 8.1 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance. Both were arrested and the vehicle was seized on the spot.

In another operation based on specific intelligence, a police team from Kulgam Police Station, accompanied by the local executive magistrate, conducted a search at the residence of Murad Ahmad Behroo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Behroo, in Matalham. The search resulted in the recovery of 800 grams of poppy straw-like substance, and the house owner was taken into custody.

According to police, all five individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway.

A police spokesperson reiterated the department’s unwavering resolve in combating the drug menace. “With strong public support and sustained surveillance, J&K Police remains committed to dismantling the narcotics network and ensuring a drug-free society,” the spokesperson said.
