Srinagar police have arrested an internet offender who was posting defamatory and fake messages about a lady on social networking site Facebook and WhatsApp, a statement said on Thursday.
According to the statement police station Parimpora was informed by a lady that an unknown person was posting defamatory and fake messages and pictures regarding her on social networking site Facebook and WhatsApp.
A case FIR no. 50/2015 under section 504,506,509/RPC was registered in this regard and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, the statement said, police succeeded in identifying the culprit who was taken into custody.
He was identified as Mohammad Sarjan Mir son of Sona-ul-lah Mir resident of Safapora, Ganderbal, who was the ex-husband of the lady. Initial investigations revealed that the offender had posted such messages and pictures in order to defame the girl to settle his score.
