SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar have arrested a man involved in an ATM card swapping fraud, recovering multiple cards from his possession.
“The arrest follows a complaint filed on February 12, 2025, by Shaheena, wife of Zahoor Ahmad Najar, a resident of Kupwara. She reported that while visiting Dental College, Shreen Bagh, for a checkup, an unidentified person swapped her ATM card inside an ATM booth and later withdrew Rs 40,000 from her account,” a police spokesperson in a statement said.
A case was registered at Police Station Safakadal, and an investigation was launched. “A team led by Incharge Police Post Bagyas analysed CCTV footage and technical inputs, leading to the identification of the accused as Burhan Al Rah, son of Gh Qadir Rah, a resident of Bonpora, Nowgam,” police said.
The accused was subsequently arrested, and several ATM cards were recovered. Police stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine his involvement in other similar fraudulent activities, with further recoveries expected.
