Police Arrest Man Wanted For Five Years in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district have arrested an absconder who had allegedly been evading arrest for five years in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officials said.

The arrested person has been identified as Mohd Ishaq Sheikh, son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh, a resident of Okey, Kulgam. He was wanted in connection with Case FIR No. 152/2021 registered at Police Station Kulgam under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Police said a team from Police Station Kulgam acted on specific information and, following sustained efforts, apprehended Sheikh in Kulgam.

After completing the required legal formalities, police produced him before the Sessions Court, Kulgam. The court subsequently remanded him to Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu.

The arrest forms part of police efforts to trace and apprehend persons wanted in pending criminal cases who have been evading the legal process.

Police said it remains committed to bringing absconders and other offenders to justice and ensuring that those wanted in criminal cases do not evade the law.
