SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested a notorious bootlegger in Sopore and recovered illicit liquor from his possession.

A Police party headed by SHO PS Tarzoo at a checkpoint established at Amargrah crossing intercepted a suspicious person carrying two bags, who was signalled to stop for checking, a police spokesman said in a statement. “The said person after noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully.”

“During the search, 39 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie resident of Banpora Langate. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” reads the statement.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 116/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo and investigation has been taken up.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding anti-social elements in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in anti-social activities will be dealt as per law,” police said.
