Police Arrest Three Drug Peddlers in North Kashmir, Seize Contraband

   

SRINAGAR: As part of its ongoing efforts to eliminate the menace of drugs from society, the police on Wednesday announced the arrest of three drug peddlers in Baramulla, recovering contraband substances from their possession.

A police team, led by the SHO of Police Station Baramulla, intercepted an individual at a checkpoint in Khawajabagh Baramulla. During the search, 60 Alprazolam tablets and 29 Pacitane psychotropic tablets were recovered. The accused was identified as Sarfaraz Ahmad Dar, son of Sonaullah Dar, a resident of Kralhar Baramulla, according to a police spokesperson.

Similarly, a police party from Police Station Boniyar, during a checkpoint operation at Banali Boniyar, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh, son of Gh Hassan, a resident of Dudran. Upon searching, 54 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered, police reported.

In another operation, a police team from Police Post Wagoora intercepted a suspect at Takiya Wagoora. The individual, identified as Jahangir Ahmad Shah, son of Mehraj-ud-Din, a resident of Takiya Wagoora, was found in possession of 30 grams of a charas-like substance.

All the accused have been arrested and taken to their respective police stations. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered, and further investigations are underway.

The police issued a public appeal, urging citizens to report instances of drug peddling or other crimes by contacting the nearest police establishment or dialling 112. “We request the public to cooperate with the police in eradicating the drug menace from society. We assure community members that the police will take strict action against offenders as per the law,” the spokesperson added. (KNO)
