Police Arrest Three Drug Peddlers in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam and Anantnag districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established in village Nipora Sadoora intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK14-4483 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Mohd Maroof, son of Hassin Din resident of Reasi and Jaswant Raj, son of Tej Ram resident of Reasi.

 

During the search, officers were able to recover 2.8 kgs of Poppy Straw, two number plates and a cash amount of Rs 1,00,160, a police spokesman said.

 

Meanwhile in Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag. He has been identified as Mohd Altaf Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Gonda, Rajouri A/P Sirhama. During the search, 5 Kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession, police said.

 

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

 

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. The general public is requested to cooperate with Police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said. (KNO)
