Police in Budgam district have arrested a gang of thieves involved in the theft of cell phones and other expensive electronic gadgets.

The District Police Chief while divulging the information said that in May this year a complainant from Beerwah Budgam, Khurshid Ahmed Beigh filed a complaint at a police station alleging that his mobile shop “Fast Track Mobile Gallery” located at Beerwah Market has been looted by unknown burglars during night hours.

“As per the complainant, burglars had decamped with 160 mobile phones, 105 chargers, 150 earphones and100 data cables of various brands amounting approximately Rs 4, 50,000 (four lakh fifty thousand).”

Police formed a Special Team after formally registering a case vide FIR number 56/17 under section 457, 380, 109 RPC in this regard.

After putting efforts for over a month police detained three accused who during the questioning confessed their crime.

“One hundred and six (106) mobile phones along with accessories amounting to Rs 3,00,000 (Three lakhs) approximately were recovered from their possession.

The involvement of the gang in other cases within the jurisdiction is being ascertained and more recoveries are expected.

The Police Officer identified the burglars as Ashraf Ganaie and Amin Ganaie, both residents of Sedipora Beerwah amd Shaban Ganaie of Utligam Beerwah.
