SRINAGAR: Police in Kulgam on Thursday arrested two alleged drug peddlers at a checkpoint on Furrah Bypass and recovered 115 grams of charas-like substance from their possession, officials said.
According to a police statement, a team from Police Post Mirbazar had set up a checkpoint at Furrah Bypass when two individuals moving suspiciously attempted to flee after noticing the police presence. The team chased and apprehended them swiftly.
Police said the suspects, identified as Javaid Gulzar Ganie and Shahid Mushtaq Bhat, both residents of Furrah, were found in possession of the contraband during a search.
A case under FIR No 252/2025, registered under Sections 8, 20 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Qazigund, has been taken up for investigation, the statement added.
Police urged residents to share information about drug peddling and other anti-social activities, noting that community cooperation is vital to tackling narcotics that continue to endanger the lives and future of young people in the district. (KNC)
