SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two individuals in Srinagar and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“Police, along with a team from the CKR office, arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from his possession. A police team, led by SHO PS Shalteng, intercepted a vehicle (registration number CH01M-9496) at a surprise checkpoint at Narbal Sozieth Bund. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by the alert police party. Upon checking, 910 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused, identified as Ishtiaq Ahmed Khowaja, son of Abdul Hamid Khowaja, a resident of Dildar Karnah, Kupwara, was subsequently arrested. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, police intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag during routine patrolling on the general road in Malwan, within the jurisdiction of Police Station Devsar. “Upon search, 10 kg of a cannabis-like contraband substance was found inside the bag. The suspect, identified as Arsalan Azad Ganie, son of Azad Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Malwan, was arrested on the spot,” it reads.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigation has been initiated.
