The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two active militants and nine over ground workers of militant outfits in Sopore area of district Baramulla on Tuesday.

SSP Sopore Harmeet Singh briefed the media during a press conference held in Sopore, that following the specific inputs about the presence of militants in Watlab area of Sopore a CASO was launched by the police along with the Central Reserve Police Force and 22 Rashtriya rifles of an army.

According to the police, two active militants identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan urf Haroon resident of Wagad Tral and Shuja-u-din Sheikh resident of Dadsara Tral were arrested by police.

SSP added that the militants had travelled to north Kashmir to recruit local youth for Jaish-e-Muhammad and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfits.

Along with the two militants, nine overground workers were also nabbed by the joint teams of Police MARCO, Army and CRPF.

“An AK 47 rifle, magazine, 15 rounds, pistol and a magazine, two hand grenades, four mobile phones and three pistol rounds were recovered from their possession,” he said.

In this regard, a case FIR no 10/2018 u/s 07/25 has been registered and further investigation has been taken up.
