SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police is a statement said that it arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Awantipora and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

The statement said that a police party of PS Beerwah at a checkpoint established at Chewdara crossing intercepted 03 suspicious persons who on seeing the Police party tried to escape from the spot but the alert police party chased them and apprehended 02 persons tactfully however, one of them managed to escape from the spot. The arrested persons have been identified as Ghulam Qadir Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik resident of Shunglipora Khag and Sameer Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Tariq Wani resident of Kulhama Beerwah. During checking, officers were able to recover 350gms of Charas from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Preliminary investigation reveals the identity of other person as Tanveer Ahmed Ganie son of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie resident of Sadipora Beerwah and efforts are on to effect his arrest.

Similarly, in Awantipora, PS Tral received a specific information that a person namely Fayaz Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat resident of Buchoo Tral has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.

On receipt of this information, a Police party headed by SHO PS Tral alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the specific location. During search, officers were able to recover 111Kgs of grinded Poppy Straw from the said residential house. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
