SRINAGAR: Police in Awantipora arrested three alleged militant associates linked to proscribed terror outfit Hizb ul Mujahideen, a spokesman said.

They were identified as Aadil Rasool Ganie resident of Batagund, Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Mohd Isaq Bhat both residents of Tral Payeen. “They were involved in providing shelter, logistics and other kinds of support to the terrorists of HM operating in the areas of Tral,” the spokesman said. “Case FIR No 16/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tral.”

March 09:  Continuing its drive against drug dealings in Budgam and Srinagar, Police in a series of actions have arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Drug-Related Arrests

In Budgam, police said at a checkpoint near Ashad Pora Beerwah, they intercepted two persons – Mehraj Ahmad Kambay resident of Suchin Boneth and Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie resident of Suranhal Batpora. From them, the officers recovered 200 grams of Charas and 240 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon. They were arrested and shifted to Police Station Beerwah where they remain in custody.

Case FIR No 43/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Beerwah and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

In Srinagar, Officers at a checkpoint near Hari Singh High Street intercepted an individual identified as Muzafar Ahmad Malik resident of Kakapora Pulwama. During the checking, the cops recovered 115 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.

Case FIR No 17/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shaheed Gunj and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Gamblers Arrested

Srinagar Police have arrested five gamblers in a series of actions in Bemina and Chanapora areas, the spokesman said.

In Bemina, a police party from Police Post Bemina raided a gambling site following an input about gambling activities in Dal Colony Bemina. Two persons arrested by police identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat resident of Sabdan Galwanpora and Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh resident of Dal Colony. They have been shifted to Police Station Parimpora where they remain in custody. Officers have seized playing cards and stake money of ₹8,200 from the gamblers.

In Chanapora, a police party from Police Post Chana Pora raided a gambling site following an input about gambling activities in Chanapora Bund area. Three persons arrested by police identified as Muzamil Ahmad Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Matta both residents of Tengpora Srinagar and Bilal Ahmad Wani resident of Chana Pora. They have been shifted to Police Station Sadder where they remain in custody. Officers have seized playing cards and stake money of ₹5,963 from the gamblers.

Cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in Police respective Police Stations and further investigations into the matter have been initiated.
