During a midnight raid, last night, four persons were arrested by police from Chiwakalan area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, local news gatherer CNS reported.

A police official said that these arrests were made in connection with the bank robbery in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

“Gunmen looted Rs 12 lakh from Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch at Charari-e-Sharif in Budgam few days back. In this regard we made some arrests and investigating is going on,” he said, adding preliminary investigation has revealed that some locals provided logistic support and shelter to the gunmen who looted the Bank at Malapora Charari-e-Sharif in Budgam.

Locals identified the arrested youth as Tanvir Ahmed Wani, Tanvir Ahmed Bhat, Farooq Ahmed Bhat and Muhammad Iqbal Wani. Locals as well as the family members of the arrested youth claimed that they are all innocent. “These youth were targeted simply because the area witnessed massive pro-freedom protests on daily basis during the unrest,” the locals added.

Meanwhile, Asif Iqbal Naik reported from Kashtwar that a day after unidentified burglars barraged inside the branch of J&K Bank Sarthal and decamped with cash worth 34.30987 lakh cash which include Rs. 20.89987 lakhs of new denomination currency notes and notes of 100, 50, 20,10,5 & 2 rupees, the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected different samples from the bank including some finger prints.

Details suggest that after registering an FIR No. 204/2016 at Police Station Kishtwar, Kishtwar police intensified its probe and questioned the bank officials beside zeroed in on some suspect.

Police sources said they have got some vital clues and had started working on key leads. They are looking for a vehicle that left the Sarthal village on the day of robbery at in between 3.30 AM to 4 AM on Wednesday.
