SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police nabbed a notorious highway robber in Thanamandi, wanted in as many as 11 criminal cases registered in various Police Stations of District Rajouri, Jammu and Samba.

A police spokesperson said that the apprehended accused has been identified as Basharat Mehmood @ Bisha, son of  Mohd Kabir, resident of Nerojal Thanamandi area of District Rajouri.

He said that the arrested accused person is prime accused in a series of high-profile highway robberies, theft, assault, attempt to murder and rape charges and has baffled investigators for months.

“Notably multiple arrest warrants were issued by different Courts clearly manifesting the severity and complexity of the criminal activities that he has  perpetrated,” he said.

“Noteworthy the said accused is a notorious criminal with involvements in FIR Nos.368, 380, 430 and 437 of 2023 U/S 392 IPC of PS Nagrota; 110/2023 U/S 392/323 IPC,4/25 A. Act of PS Gangyal; 88/2023 U/S 457/392/34 IPC of PS Manjakote; 280 and 317 of 2023 U/S 392/458/34 IPC PS Domana; 149/2023 U/S 392 of PS Vijaypur; 239/2023 U/S 392 IPC of PS Jhajjar Kotli and 281/2023 US 392/2023 PS Akhnoor,” the police added.

“This infamous gang was committing robberies on Highway and in parking areas of Districts Jammu, Samba and Rajouri,” the spokesperson said, adding that this arrest is expected to bring relief to the affected public and serve as testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies in pursuing justice
