SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Sopore and Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession, besides booked two notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam.

“In Sopore, a police party of Police Station Sopore headed by SHO PS Sopore under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir, at a checkpoint at Adipora Sopore, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05H-6710 driven by Farooq Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Adipora Sopore. During the search of the said vehicle, about 2 kilograms of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Sopore where he remains in custody,” the police spokesperson said in a statement.

“In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Uri at a checkpoint established at Garkote-Laghama, intercepted a person identified as Kabir Ali Manhas son of Shafayat Ali Manhas resident of Paranpeelan Baramulla. During the search, 240 grams of contraband Charas-like substances was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Uri where he remains in custody,” he said.

“Subsequently, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation have been initiated. Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” the police added.

Meanwhile, Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have booked two notorious drug peddlers under PIT NDPS Act in Kulgam.

“The two notorious drug peddlers identified as Dawood Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Amin Bhat resident of Mohammadpora and Sayar Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Salam Mir resident of Waripora, DH Pora, have been booked under PIT NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. The booked drug peddlers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Bhalwal Jammu,” the police said.

“Consistent action of Police against the criminals should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to eradicate social evils and making all efforts to keep the society free from drug abuse,” the police added.
