SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken major steps to disrupt the illegal narcotics trade by attaching properties of two notorious drug peddlers in Awantipora and Pulwama, while also arresting seven individuals involved in drug trafficking across several districts.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Awantipora attached a single-storey residential house valued at approximately Rs 25 lacs, owned by Tajamul Masoodi, a notorious drug peddler from Bagander, Pampore. This action was taken under section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985, as the property was identified as illegally acquired through illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Masoodi is currently detained under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged at Central Jail Kot Balwal, Jammu. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the SHO Police Station Pampore and SDPO Pampore. Local residents have hailed the initiative, noting that it serves as a significant blow to the drug trade in the area.
In another development, the Pulwama Police attached a single-storey residential house worth Rs 20 lacs belonging to Javaid Ahmad Ganaie, a notorious drug peddler from Loolipora, Kakapora. Ganaie’s property was also identified as having been illegally acquired from the proceeds of narcotics trafficking. He is currently incarcerated in Central Jail Kot Balwal under the PIT NDPS Act. This action was taken under sections 68-E and 68-F (1) of the NDPS Act, 1985, following investigations linked to FIR no. 15/2023 and FIR No. 220/2020. Local residents have supported the police’s actions, expressing satisfaction over the crackdown on illegal drug activities in Pulwama.
In a series of operations across the region, the police arrested seven drug peddlers and seized a substantial amount of contraband substances. A police team from Reshipora, led by the Incharge Police Post Reshipora, intercepted a vehicle at Dogripora in Awantipora, recovering 1.680 kg of grinded cannabis. The accused, Arif Ahmad and Naseer Ahmad, both residents of Warpora Sopore, were arrested.
In Baramulla, the Pattan Police arrested three individuals after intercepting an unregistered bike. They seized 90 grams of contraband charas from Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, Tahir Ahmad Bhat, and Nisar Ahmad Ganie.
Meanwhile, in Kulgam, Police Station Yaripora seized 900 grams of cannabis powder from Sajad Ahmad Khar after intercepting his vehicle at a checkpoint. In Kupwara, police arrested Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan after recovering 20.09 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.
All arrested individuals have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway. The police also seized vehicles used in the commission of these crimes.
