SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday recovered illicit liquor during a routine naka checking operation at Lazibal and registered a case under the Excise Act, officials said.
According to a police statement, a team from Police Post Sherbagh intercepted an i10 car bearing registration number PB13AN9357 during routine checking at Lazibal.
The vehicle was being driven by Dhanwant Singh, son of Sardar Ajeet Singh, a resident of Amritsar, Punjab, presently residing at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar.
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 14 bottles of liquor, including 12 bottles of Old Adventure and two bottles of Royal Stag, each containing 750 ml.
Police said the driver failed to produce any valid licence or permit authorising the possession or transportation of the recovered liquor.
Accordingly, FIR No. 236/2026 under Section 48 of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag, and further investigation is underway, the statement added.
