SRINAGAR: A religious cleric from the Zainapora area has been booked for allegedly making a speech that could incite sectarian disharmony in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
An official said that a local cleric, a resident of Babapora, Shopian, had uploaded a video in which he spoke against the Barelvi sect. The speech allegedly contained content that insulted, spread hatred, and caused emotional harm to another sect, thereby posing a risk of sectarian discord, he said.
He has been identified as Mubarak Ahmad Sheikh @ Qasmi, son of Ab. Salam Sheikh, a resident of Babapora, Zainapora, Shopian.
“Taking cognisance of the matter, the police have registered a case against the cleric, while investigations have been set into motion,” he added. (KNO)
