Police Bust Drone-Based Heroin Smuggling; Two Arrested, Cross-Border Links Exposed

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua district have arrested two individuals for smuggling heroin from Pakistan via drone, recovering approximately 150 grams of the narcotic during the operation, officials said on Friday.

They said that the accused have been booked under FIR No. 71/2026 at Police Station Kathua under Sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act.

“Specific intelligence regarding a drone-dropping incident along the JK–Punjab border near Nagri, Kathua,” they said adding acting swiftly, a detailed investigation was launched. “Technical analysis and review of CCTV footage led to the arrest of the first accused, Jatin, son of Ajeet Kumar, resident of Manwal, Pathankot.”

“Continued inquiry resulted in the apprehension of the second accused, Danish Dogra, alias Sajan, son of Shamsher, resident of Jakhbar, Kathua, identified as a forward link in the smuggling chain,” they said.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused maintained contact with a Pakistan-based supplier through VoIP calls and intended to distribute the heroin to local youth for profit,” they said.

“Further investigation is ongoing to map the full extent of the inter-state and cross-border smuggling network,” they further said. (GNS)
