Budgam Police on Monday said that it arrested fifteen accused drug dealers in central Kashmir’s Budgam town.

A spokesperson in a statement said that striving with its efforts to weed out the scourge of drug menace, Budgam police headed by DySP Hqrs Budgam Feroz Yehya and assisted by SHO Budgam Rafi Ahmad today established a motor vehicle checking post at Ichgam Budgam road. While the team was checking vehicles at the checking post, a white sedan (Hyundai Verna) followed by two Innova vehicles were intercepted.

“During the search of these vehicles police recovered green polythene packets each containing fukki weighing around 1 kilogram each on an average which were packed in around 8 different sized suitcases (luggage’s) weighing approximately 323 KG’s in total. The apprehended people include 7 males and 8 women,” the spokesperson in a statement said.

“During the investigation, it surfaced that basically, the apprehended persons were a part of an interstate Drug Racket operating in states of Punjab and J&K. The group would carry along female accomplices in sedans and high-end vehicles to disguise themselves as tourists,” the spokesman said.

“The seized fukki is sold at an average price of Rs. 2500 per kg in Punjab,” he said.

“Seizure of such a huge quantity of fukki and along with accused in this interstate racket, and the seizure of three high-end vehicles is expected to deter such drug traffickers,” the police spokesman said.

“Budgam Police solicits the cooperation of common masses in its continuous fight against drug menace and illegal trafficking of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances,” he said.

“A case FIR number 166 of 2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act 2018 stands registered in Police Station Budgam and investigation has been taken up,” a spokesperson in a statement said.
