Senior ruling Peoples Democratic Party leader and a senior Minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government, Abdul Rehman Veeri on Saturday lauded the role of J&k police in maintaining law and order in the state and said that the politicians are safe due to them.

Addressing a function on police commemoration day Zevan, Veeri said that the J&K Police has played a very important role in safeguarding the people of the state and politicians alike.

Veeri said the jawans of police have laid down their lives to secure the people in turbulent times.

Veeri, however, asserted that police need to show humanitarian face towards general public. People have expectations from police, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid said that it was due to the sacrifices of the local police that the force could contain the situation during 2016 summer uprising.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti skipped the funtion due to bad health.

Mehbooba was to preside over the function at Zewan, in the outskirts of Srinagar however at the last movement she decided not to attend and sent her senior party leader Abdul Rahman Veeri in her place, they said.

“Mehbooba ji could not attend the function because of her bad health,” Veeri said in his address at the function.

Every year on October 21, police forces remember its members who were killed or died while performing their duties.
