Police Crack Down on Drug, Mining Offences in Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered 12.5 grams of heroin-like substance. At the same time, in a separate operation in Handwara, 11 vehicles involved in illegal mineral extraction and transportation were seized.

In Baramulla, a checkpoint was established at Utikoo near Bangil Public Education Institute by a team from Police Station Kunzer, led by the Station House Officer. During the check, one individual was intercepted and found in possession of the contraband. The accused, identified as Naseer Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh, resident of Par Mohallah, Pattan, has been arrested and remains in custody.

A case under FIR No. 73/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kunzer under relevant sections of law, and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, in Handwara, police carried out a special drive across various locations in the district against illegal mining. The operation led to the seizure of 11 vehicles, 01 JCB, 07 tractors, and 03 tippers used in extraction and transportation of minerals without proper authorization or valid documents.

The seizures were made following coordinated checks by different police units acting on specific leads. Relevant cases have been registered and further investigations are underway to identify individuals involved in the violations.

Police have urged the public to report any information related to drug peddling, illegal mining, or other unlawful activities to the nearest police station or by dialling 112. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continue strict action under law against such offences.
